Home is Where the Heart is!

Growing up, we had a needlepoint piece of art in our home which read, "Home is where the Heart is". Today, it hangs on the wall in my parents home and I read it with greater understanding and appreciation than ever before.

Just 2 weeks ago, Nick, Massimo and I packed up our life in Los Angeles to move back East. The decision was based on several factors but most importantly being faithful to God and trusting his plan for our future.

Los Angeles played a special role in our life; it's where we got married, brought our first child into the world, celebrated special birthdays and anniversary's, met incredible friends and experienced life as newlyweds. I'm proud to say that we lived in LA for 4 years and that Massimo can boast about being born in the city of Angels. It will always remain close to our heart!

Being back East has brought on a whole new element (besides humidity!). Most importantly, we have FAMILY! For those that know me well, my family means the world to me and living 3,000 miles away over the last 4 years has been difficult. There is no greater feeling than having the support and love from your parents, siblings, aunts/uncles, cousins, grandparents and close friends right in your back yard.

It has been like a summer beach house here in NJ; we BBQ every night, stay up late to watch movies, sleep until 9, and head to the "lake" for sun, sand and swimming! We have also had some "firsts" over the last 2 weeks.... Massimo's first haircut, his transition from the crib to a big boy bed, and this week will be his first swim lesson. Massi is growing up before our eyes and enjoying every minute with his surrounded family.

Robert is the town barber and has cut several generations in the Van Houten family; Great Grandfather, Granfather, Father, brother, etc. It was only suitable to have him cut Massi's. Plus, he's Italian!

August is here, which means we are busy getting ready for the arrival of our little princess, Isabella! As of today, I'm 37 weeks and will be having a scheduled c-section on August 17th. Bella is currently breach, but very healthy and weighing over 6 lbs! These next two weeks are dedicated to mentally preparing ourselves for a newborn, especially Massi. As much as he loves kissing my belly and saying "baby", he really has no idea what's coming his way (neither do Nick or I). :)

Celebration for Independence Day!

4th of July is our 2nd favorite "family" holiday, my 1st is Christmas and Nick's is Thanksgiving, my guess would be that Massimo loves Easter because he is a candy fanatic!

This year our 4th of July was definitely bittersweet, as we celebrated the much anticipated holiday in Pacific Palisades as well as our last 4th of July on the West Coast (for a while at least)! Before I get into our fun 4th, I'd like to announce that we are officially moving back to the East Coast! We're excited about our next adventure and look forward to new job opportunities, a new child and being close to our family & friends.

Independence Day in Pacific Palisades is unique and special; residents of Pali and near-by towns wake up early to run in the annual 10K & 5K race, the town kicks-off an incredible and festive parade early afternoon, and we all join with friends for a bbq and fireworks in the evening! There is nothing better than July 4th in the Palisades and we will miss it tremendously. Here's a look at the Leone's celebrating this special holiday over the last 4 years...

2006 ~ Our first year in the Palisades; we ran the 10k in 49 minutes!

2007 ~ The whole family came out! We had a blast!

2009 ~ Massimo's first 4th in the Palisades. We came in 1st "Stroller" in the 5k!

2010 ~ Although we sat out of the race this year (I am 8 months pregnant and Nick is recovering from back surgery), Massimo had a great time!

We're looking forward to a "new" July 4th experience next year, but will always remember how much fun we have in the Palisades!

Springtime...

It dawned on me today that June is around the corner, which means summer is here and baby Bella is close to her arrival! Where did Spring go?!?... that season I longed for after living through dreadfull winters in NY / NJ every year. Well, Spring has certainly sprung in LA, NY & NJ, and we are all enjoying the nice weather.

So, what have we been up to all month? Early in May, Massi and I took a trip to NJ for my oldest & dearest friends Bridal Shower, Jenn Hirschbach! Juju was in her glory watching Massi as I worked and spent time in NYC for a few days. As always, home was filled with meaningful visits with friends and family. Here are just a few pictures to highlight our trip!

Back in Cali, we've been enjoying watching Massi explore as a toddler. It's hard to believe he'll be 2 in just a few months. Just this morning at church, I got all teared up watching 4 year olds perform bible songs on stage... to think that my little boy will be this big soon!?!

Everyday is something new for Massi; a new word, a favorite food, a challenge or fun activity. I remember when I was pregnant with him, I kept telling Nick, "all I'm going to do is laugh at my children". Well, it's true, I find myself laughing at Massimo pretty much all day... whether it be his smile/teeth, the way he runs/skips, how he finds a way to make a musical instrument out of nothing, and overall his cuddly and funny personality. He is my little dream boy!

As for Daddy Leone, we're excited to have him back as our "partner in crime". With his back healed, we have more leisure time to head to the park as a family, play ball, go on long walks, and most of all feel GREAT knowing that he isn't in pain anymore.

We're also so thankful for Baby Isabella's healthy journey so far. As of this week, I am 7 Months Pregnant! I wish I could say this pregnancy has flown by, but it really hasn't, having a toddler and an expanding belly is not easy. We cannot wait for Bella to arrive in August!

Once again, I seem to be counting down the days for our next trip to NJ (18 days!). We cannot wait to celebrate nuptials, new babies (yes, more!), and just have some R&R with family.

Family!

There is nothing better than having your entire family together in one place!! In early April, my parents, brother & sister came out to celebrate Easter with us. It was a holiday I looked forward to and talked to Massimo about for months ("Nana Juju is coming in 3 weeks!").

The 5 days we spent together were full of lots of fun outdoors, tons of snuggling, and LOVE.LOVE.LOVE!

Massi loved having everyone here... he entertained us all with his funny personality, energetic spirit and loving demeanor! He is just so full of affection! Every morning during my family's visit, he would wake up,head to the closet, grab his shoes and coat and stand at the door until I was ready to go. Cuddling with Juju & Chelsea in their hotel room

was a morning highlight!

We woke on Easter Sunday, to find baskets for ALL (even Bella!) and enjoyed an Easter Egg hunt for Massi! With everyone gussied all up, we made our way to church, where Massi begged and begged daddy to bring him to the front row so he could see all the instruments and dance to the music...he is going to be one little musician!

Our afternoon was full of excitement as the Van Houten's experienced their very first EARTHQUAKE!! At around 2 p.m., just as we were all relaxing around the house, the aftershock of a 7.6 quake in Baja Mexico, jolted the city of Los Angeles. As a 4 year SoCal veteran, I'd like to say I'm somewhat "used" to these quakes occurring, but to see my family experience one was just classic! I think they were ready to go home after that...

My family leaving was nothing short of "SEE YOU SOON", as the Leone's will be making their way back to NJ in April & June! We cannot wait to see everyone...

March Madness!

Is it really April 1st? I woke up this morning thinking, "I went through the entire month without posting ONE blog post"!?! I figured I would hurry and update you all before I'm completely outdated.

March was a fun month, full of exciting news, special visits and warm weather!!

We kicked off the month with Nana Juju in town for her birthday. Massi was in his glory having Nana in town... we had many visits to the park, out to lunch with friends, and most importantly a special visit to the DR. It was time to find out the sex of Baby Leone #2!

WE ARE EXPECTING A GIRL! And yes, we have already named her... Isabella Giulia Leone! We are beyond excited and feel so blessed to have a healthy baby girl coming into this world this August!

We've been soaking up the sun over the last few weekends, with 70-80 degree weather. Several walks to the beach, and a new activity "the high school track", where Massi has learned to master his soccer kick and cheer daddy on as he does a few laps.

We're gearing up today for the entire Van Houten clan to join us for Easter, we haven't seen Papa Ricky, Uncle Richie & Aunt Chelsea since December. :( I promise to post shortly after they leave!

Speaking of new posts, I am moving Massi's blog to a family blog starting this month. I'm sad to say that his blog will be going away (not really, but I will not be posting to it), as it has been such a sweet hobby of mine to write about our little boy and share "him" with all of you. 3 + 1 = 4

I know, it's been a while, the New Year to be exact. But I have good reason...

Morning Sickness, running after a toddler, playing nurse to Nick, more nausea, taking Massi to gym class, traveling for work, night sickness!

For those that don't know, we are expecting!! There will be a new addition to the Leone family this coming August. We are so excited and feel so blessed to have a second child on the way. Here's a sweet snapshot of baby Leone waving and me at 13 weeks.

Besides, trying to get through a very challenging 1st trimester, we have been enjoying chilly weather in SoCal and lovin' on one other. I've been traveling like crazy for work; SanFran, Chicago, Seattle. It was nice to have ME time while away, but I swear as Massimo get's older, you don't want to miss a darn thing. He really lights us up everyday (more on Massi later)!

We heard some great news from Nick's back doctor last week, he is 90% fused and should be at 100% by April 1st! Hallelujah! He has really turned the corner these last few weeks, and it's exciting to see him feeling better, playing with Massimo, and ready to tackle the world. He's been working hard and preparing for success in 2010!

Oh, Massimo, Massimo... what can I saw about our little man. I read a friend's blog the other day and she listed all the things her 2 year old daughter loves to do... I thought I'd give it a try. It's a nice way for everyone to see what our little man is doing, thinking, and exploring.

What I love to do, by Massimo Leone...

Waking up in mommy & daddy's bed, watching Yo Gabba Gabba until I'm blue in the face, spilling my morning bowl of cheerios all over the floor and then picking them up, throwing tennis balls w/daddy, going for long walks outside w/Elsa, playing in the sand, eating my daily grilled cheese nice and slowly, hitting mommy on the nose and laughing, skyping with Juju, playing my piano, picking up the phone and trying to call everyone, helping to blow out the candle, eating lots of lollipops, dancing & singing 24/7, and lastly taking a "tub-a-roni" (that's a bath in adult language).

So, what's on deck for March... we have Juju coming the very first week to celebrate her birthday with us, we are bursting with excitement. We will also be getting ready for the entire family to come for Easter in early April! Oh, we just can't wait to have the whole gang here.

Home for the Holidays!!!

We just returned home from our annual Christmas journey to NJ! This trip was much different from the past few years... for starters, Massimo is walking and behaving like a toddler, running around the house, getting into every cabinet possible and speaking a language that we hope will come to life in the next month or so! We also took the journey on our own, as Nick stayed home to continue recovering. We prayed everyday that he would make his way out to NJ in time for Christmas (more on that later!).

The first part of our trip was full of LOVE! My schedule was busy with a wedding, dinners, and working in the Google NYC office, which left Massimo in the care of his Pappa Ricky, Juju & Aunt Chelsea. Let's just say, a few days alone together made up for the last few months!

The cold weather is something Massi was not used to, but we didn't let it stop us! From walks around the neighborhood, helping Pappa Ricky plow the neighbors driveways and playing in the snow, we had a ball!

As we drew near to Christmas, the thought of not having Nick with us was just unthinkable. The night before he was suppose to fly to NJ, he made up his mind that the best thing to do was stay in LA. However, that same night we decided to turn on video chat. Let's just say, the inevitable happened; Massi just sat there, staring at his dad for a minute... in awe, with sadness and confusion. He broke into tears and then wept over missing and loving his father! It broke ALL of our hearts... and at that moment Nick decided that no injury was going to distance him from his family! We welcomed Nick to NJ less than 48 hours later...

Christmas was now complete! We started the morning reading Isiah 9: For Unto Us a Child Is Born! Soon after, we started opening gifts and really took in what everyone was giving & getting. It was especially fun watching Massimo unwrap his first major instrument.. a PIANO! The pictures do not do justice so be sure to check out this video...

This year, Christmas was a day celebrating the birth of Jesus but also embracing the LOVE our family has for one another. Our night ended with dessert at The Marino's (my Aunt Sheri), where we all sat around the fire and sang Christmas Carols & Hymns!

So, what's next? We are happy to be safely home in LA, enjoying the beautiful weather. We are also very excited about what 2010 with bring for the Leone's... stay tuned over the next few months!

It's the Hap-Happiest time of the year

I don't know about you, but November & December are two of my favorite months of the year! The anticipation of Thanksgiving, followed by weeks of listening to Christmas Music, decorating, shopping and enjoying time with family and friends cannot be beat! Let's not mention the true meaning of these holidays... (I won't get into that in this post!) :)

We have certainly enjoyed the last few weeks in LA. For Thanksgiving, we continued our tradition of celebrating with our good friends The Bry's. My goal this year was to be Betty Crocker; in doing so I slaved in the kitchen making homemade cranberry sauce, sweet potatoe casserole & a homemade pumpkin pie. Let's just say we had plenty of leftovers! Massi really enjoyed his time at Thanksgiving dinner... he was passed around the table like a hot dish! This year we are most thankful for our health; given Nick's back surgery and his recovery we just thank God that we can be together to celebrate his good works!

Now onto December, "the most wonderful time of year"! Although we're only one week in, there has been a ton of activity in and out of the house! Our first mission was to pick out the perfect tree. This year I let Massi do the honors... as you can see he blessed us with our very first "toddler" tree. We had a ball decorating together...surprisingly, Massi hasn't broken an ornament yet (oh, what an angel he is!) :).

I actually jogged up Sunset Boulevard like this!

This past weekend, we really got into the holiday spirit with a visit from St. Nick! At the Palisades annual Santa Walk, we enjoyed hot cocoa & popcorn with friends while waiting on a veryyy long line to sit on Santa's lap. I don't know who was more excited, me or Massi? I think this picture says it all....

So, what's next? This week Massi and I are off to the Garden State to see our family & friends for the holiday. We look forward to daddy joining us on the 20th and pray that his back continues to strengthen....

LIFE!

One of my all time favorite movies is Forest Gump! In the movie Forest coins a quote that goes like this...

"Life Is like a Box of Chocolates... You Never Know What You're Gonna Get!"

Over the past month, this quote seems to fit "our" life. We've had some amazing DARK chocolates and then a few milk chocolates with some type of mystery goo inside. Do you get where I'm going? Yes, life can be amazing some days and pretty challenging the next. But then again, what would we do if it was so perfect all the time?

The biggest update is Nick's recovering. I thought I would include a picture I always dreamed of taking; Daddy WALKING with his son! This picture was taken a week ago on our "daily" walk to the bluff, where Nick gets to loosen his muscles and clear his mind. Although he's up and about walking, the recovery pain has been severe to his left leg. We are praying the nerve pain will ease up soon so he can come home to NJ with us for Christmas!

This past month, we also had a very special visit from Nana Juju! I was especially excited to have my mom around... between work, co-chairing the Pacific Palisades Home Tour, and taking care of two needy boys, my mind and body needed a mini break. After about 24 hours of her being here, we all came down with a fever (minus Juju) and we needed "our mommy" to move out of the Riv and stay full time at the Leone's! Poor Juju, what she thought was going to be a relaxing vacation turned into a weekend of chicken soup and running up and down the stairs.

We Love You Juju and thank you so much for your TLC!!!

So, what's next? Thanksgiving in LA! We're looking forward to spending time with friends and taking care of Nick so we can spend Christmas as a FAMILY!! I'm hoping Santa brings some extra extra dark chocolate....

This morning Massimo and I hustled through our morning routine; diaper change, bottle, oatmeal, skinny latte... in preparation to pick up Nick from the hospital.

Yes, you heard me correctly, daddy is HOME!

If you missed my update last week, Nick's surgery went phenomenly well and we've been waiting patiently for him to recover in the hospital.

I had the chance to visit Nick over the last few days and was so impressed with his spirit and positive attitude. In fact, on the day of surgery he was wheeled into the recovery room, where I was waiting, and asked for a cocktail! We all know Nick loves cocktail hour, so I took this as a good sign!

Although he's still very uncomfortable and has a month or two of full recovery, we are so excited that everything went well and that we have daddy back home. Personally, I am full of JOY thinking back to the pain Nick was in and how we have a future of health & happiness now!

So, what did Massi and I do all week?!?

For starters, I learned a few things while Nick was in the hospital...

1. Being a single parent is hard work!
2. Nick is so hands on with Massimo & I need to appreciate everything he does!
3. Massi really knew what he could get away with while Daddy was out of sight (climbing on everything, not taking naps, sneaking in bed with me)!

Overall, our week/end was lonely because we missed Nick but Massi and I had a great time together. We ate healthy meals, went for long runs, and enjoyed cuddling. We even had a special date night last night; pizza and veggies at our favorite outdoor joint, along with an ice cream cone.

I love my boys and am so thankful for our health and the JOY we have as a family!

GOD IS GOOD.

Week of Preparation!

Most of you know that Nick is having major back surgery this coming Tuesday, October 20th. As a family, we are prepared and trusting that God will watch over his surgery and recovery.

In preparation, we've been spending time with close friends and thinking ahead to all the "active" things Nick will be able to do in the near future; walk with me & Massi, run Temescal (again), play tennis pain free, and most importantly stand on line at Starbucks!

We Love You Daddy and will be there with you every step of the way...

Oktoberfest!!!

Fall is officially here in LA!

To me, fall means...
...putting on an extra layer when we head for our morning starbucks
...checking the temp. outside as soon as I wake up (I love to see it in the 50's!)
...bringing a blankie along for Massi on our early morning runs
...cooking warm hearty meals for Sunday dinner
and my favorite...
...bringing out my sweaters & boots (come on I'm from the east coast)

This weekend, I started a tradition for The Leone's where we visited the Palisades Pumpkin Patch!

Massi and I actually took a trip while Daddy watched the Patriots WIN. We'll be sure to go back next weekend when the entire family can take part in the fun.

Needless to say, we had a ball! Massi was in awe over the hundreds of pumpkins throughout the field and he even met a new friend, Mr. Scarecrow!

We also got a new toy for the house, a basketball hoop! Our little star is not exactly sure how to use it but Daddy's confident he'll be able to dunk by next weekend. :)

WILD CHILD!

Yes, I said it... Masismo is a WILD CHILD!

This weekend Nick and I sat around laughing at our little man as he learns to use his voice, hands, and legs more and more! You have to watch the new videos to see what I mean :)

A few highlights of the week...

Massi finally stepped up to the plate and started eating like a real man! I must admit, marrying a tall, dark, hansome Italian Man, I definetly would have thought my child, especially my boy, would be an eater. He is loving every bite now...

This week was Fashion Week for Massi, as I took out some new 12-18 months clothes, and came across 2 AMAZING pair of Nike's that were gifts when I was pregnant. I think Nick and I were more tickled over them... you'll see a few different pairs throughout the album below!

Massi and I had a date on Sunday morning...we got all dressed up and went to church together! I had him stay through worship with me and we danced and sang... he even waved his arms up like he was praising Jesus... this is us after we left service!

And last but not least, we ended our weekend at a fun picnic at Will Rogers State Park in our town. It was for the Junior Woman's club, which I'm a member of! Lots of kids and even a horsey! (pics in the album below)

As I sit here writing this post, thinking about all the fun that was had this weekend, I'm in awe over how big and enthusiastic our little boy is. Just last weekend, he didn't know how wave goodbye, walk while holding my hand, and bounce a ball! We're so proud of you Massimo...

Back to School!

OH, how I love this time of year! The weather starts to change, foliage begins, kids fill up the town and streets after school, and we all get back on schedule from our summer break.

For the Leone's, Fall represents FOOTBALL SEASON! A time when on Saturday night we lay out our Patriots gear in preparation for a day of excitement for what our team's going to bring! This year, we have a new cheerleader in the house...

We've been busy with lots of parties; The Riviera tennis club hosted a "baby day" where Massimo and his pals roamed court 1! This weekend, we had fun at our friend Beth's house, where Massi & Felix played with the big boys!

I can't forget to mention our recent visit to Dr. Davy, where Massi was overjoyed to get a clean bill of health; weighing in at 19 lbs (he's still a little guy) and growing to 29 inches.. YAY!

Massimo should be up and walking very soon... until then he's enjoying cruising around the house, playing with his favorite new tricycle (from Aunt Jeanne & Aunt Brooke), and yelling out "Yeah, Dada"!

Summer Reflections...

Is it really Labor Day weekend? WOW!

As I look back at the past month (sorry I took a blog hiatus), I'm amazed at the amount of "fun" the Leone family has had all summer. This summer was much different than past; we are a FAMILY... we have a little boy we wake up to every morning, a child we want to share with our family & friends, and now a toddler we have to race after! We are truly blessed...

So, what did we do all summer? For starters, we celebrated 3 very special birthdays... Daddy's in July, mine in August, and we can't forget the biggest and most important, Massimo's 1st Birthday in September!

We celebrated Massi's birthday at home in NJ with family and friends! People came near and far to see our little Lion blow out his candles... we had Nana Romaine and the Crowder's / Eder's drive up from Virgina (we love you guys!) and several of our favorite families came in from Brookyln, Manhattan & Long Island! The party wouldn't have been the same without you... thank you!

Our trips to NJ in June & August were filled with backyard bqq's, hot days at Crestwood Lake, long runs with Juju & short haircuts by Chevas! Oh, and we cannot forget the fun we had at Brooke & Josh's wedding... Mazel Tov!

We will never forget this time, as it marked our first summer as a family! As we celebrated old memories and created new ones in NJ, I feel invigorated to bring these memories back to LA. We live in the most beautiful place, Pacific Palisades, filled with sunshine, the great outdoors, and lasting friendships. Here are just a few things we plan to focus on for the fall / winter...

*Tennis and more tennis, church & sunday school for Massi, lots of reading, spending more time with our west coast friends, taking part in community activities, ME & NICK!, focusing on a new home, and lastly the possibility of a new addition. ;)

Summer Celebrations!

Over the last few weeks, the Leone's have been busy celebrating some very special people in their life! We've had two 40 year old birthday parties (Helene & Beth), and three 1 year old celebrations (Finleigh, Harper & Aidyn)! Parties, no matter what age, are always great... you get to dress up, mingle with friends, meet some new ones, and enjoy great food & drinks. Who doesn't love a party!?!?

As mentioned in my last post, Massi is enjoying his weekly gym class, Kidnasium. This past week he learned how to climb down the big rainbow toy (see below) as well as stairs... we are very proud of his big accomplishment!

Massi is also eating up a storm -- here's a shot of his new favorite food, Mac-n-Cheese!

This week I'm packing up and heading to Miami for a bachellorette party for my close friend Brooke... I can't wait for a fun girls getaway. I also have Google's sales conference right from Miami, which will keep me from seeing my boys for one whole week... YIKES! I will miss them dearly, especially on my birthday (8/18)... but can't wait to see everyone in NJ on the 20th!

Ahhh Life with Massi

It's been about 2 weeks since my last post... and boy do we have a ton to share with you all!

First, Massi is 11 months TODAY! Woohoo...

Massimo is becoming a little man right before our eyes... it makes Nick and I just slap happy to watch him race around the house (still crawling but FAST!), talking up a storm in his own language, and eating nonstop. We have enjoyed the summer heat in SoCal... swimming in the pool, going for sunny walks, and eating LOTS of ice cream!

We took Massi for his 1o month check-up last week and he came in around 18 lbs / 29 inches. If you ask me he's just perfect. :) We left with a clean bill of health and can't wait for our next appt to see what the stats are.

So what's Massi doing for activity? Funny you should ask... we just signed him up for Kidnasium, this fantastic children's gym. He's made some great friends while learning to crawl through tunnels, play ring around the rosey, and sliding down the slide!

As we enter into August, we have lots of birthdays to celebrate, especially Massimo's friends here in CALI! Here's a big shout out to Felix, Harper & Finleigh Bell (who's pictured below!). We Love You guys...

What will we be doing for Massimo's First Birthday? We are heading home to NJ! We'll be there the last 2 weeks in August, enjoying family and friends and celebrating Massi as he turns 1 on September 2nd.

Chella Bean's in town!

There's nothing better than having family in town! For the last 10 days, Massimo's Aunt Chelsea has been kissing on him 24/7! Between visits to the beach, walks through town, and dragging her to yoga classes... we have had the time of our life.

One of the things I love about Chelsea being around, is that I can leave my camera at home... she is a professional!!! Our first photo shoot was mommy and Massi at the beach... the goal was to get a great shot to give to Nick for his birthday (July 13th). Here are a few of our favorites...

We are enjoying Massimo and the day to day experiences of him getting older. Let's see, he can stand on his own, crawl like a race car, climb up ALL stairs in our home, and have a full on "baby talk" conversation. He is just a joy!!!

Massimo's first 4th of July!!!

Oh, how I just love Independence Day! Massimo's first 4th of July couldn't have been better...

The Leone's kicked off the day by running in the 32nd annual Pacific Palisades Run. This year, because we have a little bambino, we opted into running the 5k with the stroller (we usually run the 10k)! Massi and I had a blast and even came in 1st place in the stroller category :). I told Massi he beat mommy and he kicked his legs and smiled at me...

After the race, my sister Chelsea arrived from NJ, and we all headed to town to watch the Palisades Parade (lots of activity in Pali!). I thought Massi would go crazy over all the marching bands, horses, skydivers, fun cars, etc. But instead, he just stayed on my lap and stared in awe... between the thousands of people at the race and now even more at the parade, he was taking it all in.

After the parade, we took a drive through beautiful Malibu canyon to my friend from High School's home in Calabasas. It was great to see Jaime and her family, and of course Massi loved being with all the kids and swimming in the pool!

As we drove home on PCH, we were struck by not only one firework show (Malibu), but we could see about 4 others across different beaches; Bel Air Beach Club, Santa Monica, Long Beach, and we even made it home in time to watch our very own Palisades show! Again, Massi just stared at all the lights and didn't make a peep at the big noises... just taking it all in!

Best of Both Worlds

It's been over a week since we've been back from NJ. I'll admit, I always get sad leaving our family & friends and heading back to a "home" where we don't have family and our close friends consist of a dozen people we've met in just the last 3 years. They are truly amazing people but it's just not the same being without your family. However, arriving in LA last week, made me realize that we really do have the BEST OF BOTH WORLDS! One world, NJ, where we can come home anytime to a loving family and friends that want to see us in the drop of a dime. The other world, LA, where Nick and I have started our own family, our own memories, and a home we plan to share with all of our East Coast friends (that's not to say I wouldn't put up a fight if we had move back east!).

This past weekend, we enjoyed a mini vacation with our close friends, The Bry's, down in Palm Springs! We love spending time with them and heading to their house is always full of activity -- swimming, running, tennis, bbq'ing, and lots of electric lemonades. Massimo was in his glory kicking and splashing in the pool with the kids. We also experienced 105+ weather, which for a Jersey Girl I thought I could bare... not so much!

It's weekends like these that I appreciate where we live, who we have met and the journey The Leone's are on...

New Jersey Lovin!

Our trip home to NJ was just a whirlwind of fun! My parents actually referred to it as a "tornado" because we literally didn't come up for air.

Because it had been 6 months since our last trip, the "visitor" schedule was pretty packed. It made me realize just how popular Massimo is, after all he is the one everyone wants to see.

Massimo, how did you get there?

This past week has been of full of surprises for me & Nick! Massimo has taken his crawling and standing to the next level! What I mean by NEXT LEVEL is his ability to climb; climb bookshelves, climb stairs, climb a mirror you cannot even climb!

He continues to amaze us everyday as we watch our little newborn baby turn into a toddler (well not quite but almost).

Uncle Richy in Town...

This past weekend we had special visitors... my brother Rich joined us all the way from NJ, with his girlfriend Julieanna ("Julie")! We had a great time showing them around town, eating good food, laughing at Massimo and just enjoying one another! A few highlights include... Julie's first tennis lesson by Nick, Massimo's first hike, and the many D-List celebrities we saw along the way (inside joke!) :)

Besides this weekend, Nick and I have enjoyed watching Massimo grow and develop... it blows my mind to see what he does new everyday. To give you an idea, he has learned to swim (go under water & kick), crawl all over the place, pick himself up to standing anywhere & everywhere, and walk on his own while holding on to things (i.e., picture the sofa). He definitely takes after his dad in pushing the limits!

We are excited to start packing our bags soon for NJ... 10 days and counting!

The Leone's 1st Family Vacation...

Growing up, the Van Houten's took many family vacations to Virgina & the Carolina's...my dad would wake us up at the crack o' dawn and we'd all mozy out to the car (we drove 7+ hours). Dad always promised us a Dunkin Donuts stop 1/2 way through, which led to Richard and I always fighting over the box!

My favorite part of those trips was hearing my dad say, "Next stop, fun city!!".

This past weekend, the Leone's took their first vacation as a family to Laguna Beach and it was nothing but FUN! We packed the car to the brim, buckled Massi in his belt, and set our mind on poolside, relaxation, exercise and cocktails. The Winships also joined us... it's great to travel with a family who has a baby. Massimo & Aidyn are starting to get really close! :)

The weekend was packed with laughter, great memories, and new friends (Sally Field, Nancy O'Dell, Chelsea Handler). We also got to meet little baby Reyhana, who is so beautiful! The biggest highlight of the weekend was Massimo learning how to swim... we have lots of pictures and videos capturing his (and our) excitement.

Movin & Shakin

Where do I begin? For starters, we're burning a ton of calories over here at the Leone household!

First, this past weekend Massi and I went in our first run/walk to support Breast Cancer... we actually came in first place (ok, I'll admit it was officially a walk, but we decided to RUN). :)

Second, Massimo has become a CRAWLER! In just the last few days, he's gone from 1-2-3 steps to fully doing laps around the living room and kitchen. He will definetly take after his Romaine uncles (my mom's brothers) in running the mile under 5 minutes! There is no stopping him now...

Lastly, Massi seems to love making mommy & daddy run up and down the stairs. For the past few nights, he's been playing a game, where he picks himself to a standing position in his crib and gets stuck (as in scared to fall down). We quickly race to his rescue and the game begins all over again... oh how fun it is!

This last week has brought on renewed excitement for "firsts"... it's unbelievable to watch your child learn how to do things on their own! We're so proud of you Massi.

Massi is WILD!!

We have turned a new corner with Massimo's "activeness"!

Ever since he hit 8 months last week, the talking has picked up, the standing is becoming more steady and he's *somehow* moving from one side of the room to the other. I say *somehow* because he isn't crawling yet, but has fully conquered the ability to pull himself (on his belly) wherever he wants go... just a matter days before he's officially crawling!

Celebrating Massimo!

This past week, we've just been lovin' on Massi; he's fighting a fever, runny nose, cough (and NO it's not Swine Flu). On top of it all, he's teething! Yes, he officially has 1 toof (as Nick and I like to call them) cutting through on his lower left side. His drooling is out of control and can put any St. Bernard or Mastiff to the test ... toof fairy come soon!

A few other exciting "next steps" for Massimo...

1. At his 8 month check-up this week, he weighed in at 17 lbs and 27 inches. The Dr. said it's perfect, especially being he was a month early.

2. Massi has become a true yogi this week (thanks for the inspiration Sarah!). His new move is plank to downward dog and then he pulls himself to his next spot (basically his way of crawling right now). It is sooo funny...

3. We also created a new play area for Massi... he has MANY options to choose from now; bouncer, sports car walker, an electric game board complete with telephone & piano!

4. Massi also took his bath without me or Nick... you'll see in the pictures that he has his "own" tub, thanks Aunt Sheri! I can't tell if he likes it more, but it sure gives us a little break. :)

5. Lastly, we brought Massi to the Santa Monica stairs yesterday! Nick held him in the bjorn and we tackled about 8 flights (there are about steps at a very steep incline)... it was so much fun and something we'll be adding to our weekly agenda! Massi made lots of friends, including Olympian Carl Lewis' track partner and a Nigerian Soccer player.

Life Outdoors..

Massimo is so blessed to live in a place where the weather is beautiful almost every single day!

Our new outdoor "summer" hangouts are the following:

1. Tennis Club lawn: we can enjoy watching tennis as we play with some toys and munch on healthy snacks (Massi loves chomping on carrot sticks).

2. Palisades Park: Massi goes crazy over the swings & with my supervision flys down the slides!

3. Our Rooftop Deck: We have this great deck on our roof, where you can see the Mountains & Ocean. Massi just goes crazy up there... (I'll get a better picture of the view next time)

What's new with Massi?

Let's see... this past week has been full of new "happenings".

1. Massi has moved on from his bouncer to a walker! This walker is no ordinary walker, it is a CHEVY!

2. Massi can now fully hold his sippy cup & bottle! He wants nothing to do with us helping him out. :(

3. Our new playtime is dedicated to rolling his new bouncy ball back and forth... so much fun!

4. Massi is fully an Italian, sporting a wife beater (today) on walk in 90+ degrees... check his guns!

We love & Miss all of our friends and family on the east coast... see you in June!

There's nothing more than capturing Massimo's JOY in a picture! You'll see in this new batch, Massi is so full of life, happiness, and spunk.

Over the last week, he has wowed us with "new" learnings; fully sitting up on his own, talking with his tongue sticking out, and grabbing everything in sight (i.e., grabbed a champagne glass at brunch yesterday and broke it).

We had a wonderful Easter as a little family... church at the Hollywood Bowl... followed by a late lunch at our friends house. Massimo was enamored by Easter "eggs" and appeared to be very competitive in the "hunt"! :)

Boy, was it hot in LA this weekend! Nick, Massimo and I spent the weekend "family style"... hitting up the park, eating outside at our favorite cafes, and just enjoying one another. Massi is just so much fun these days (why didn't someone tell me that after 6 months it only gets better) :).

Today really tickled Nick and I, as Massi really enjoyed church for the first time. He went gaga over the song service and when the pastor got up to speak... he was all ears!! Check it out..

What a week...

WOW! This week felt like a month..

Let's see... Tuesday, I went on my first overnight (business) trip up north to meet with a few clients. To my surprise, I actually enjoyed being away for 24 hours. Nick held down the fort and sent pictures of "their" doings, every hour. This was just my absolute favorite.. Massimo in the hamper :) If I wrote a book on all the funny and "out of this world" things Nick does with Massi, I would be famous! (or Nick would be).

This weekend was the big mixed doubles tourney at the RIV. We had a ball... Nick played with a Jr. who is heading to Brown next year. They did great, made it to the finals and won a beautiful Riviera crystal ball. However, the real Trophy was Massimo, as you'll see in the pictures. Massi and I are so proud of him!!! I took a bunch of pictures, so everyone can feel like they were there. You can see, Massi has a ton of fans :)

Hi Everyone! I'm sitting here, after a tall glass of wine, thinking "I want my bed"! This weekend has just been a whirlwind. Saturday we were guests at the Mulholland Tennis club (for those that haven't been on Mulholland Drive.. it is windy and a bit scary.. especially with Nick behind the wheel!). Nick played doubles with our close friend Billy Bush and 2 other hollywood producers... (you would think we were in the entertainment business). Anyway, it was super fun and Massi, like always was a champ!

Shortly after tennis, we packed Massimo up and headed South/East to Ontario, CA. Nick is interested in buying a minor league hockey team, so we met with the owner of the Ontario Reign and watched the game (front row!). Massimo was full of excitement during warm-ups, but when it came time to play, his frown turned upside down and the tears started streaming. We couldn't help but laugh.... go figure, his dad grew up on skates and at his first game he starts to cry...maybe Massimo wanted to be on the ice?!?!

What a a great long weekend we had with Nana "Juju"!!!

The weather has been perfect here in LA.... we've enjoyed taking long walks around the village, watching tennis at the club and running on the beach!!

Today, we went to church at Bel Air Pres, and had brunch with our good friends Scott and Catherine & Massi's girlfriend Aidyn (check the pics of them holding hands!).

Today is a very exciting day... Juju is coming to visit! We haven't seen my mom in over a month, and Massi has changed so much. She is going to die when she sees him... I promise to take a ton of pictures.

We've had a fun week with Massi.... no teeth yet but his hand is always in his mouth and his shirt is always wet with drool. Massimo really surprised us on Wednesday night and slept through the entire night, without a peep. I think I was so shocked that I kept waking up every 30 mins to check on him... I've just surrendered to getting NO sleep until my children are off and married one day (ok, that's a scary thought).

Massimo "almost" 6 months!

6 Months? Where has the time gone...

I write this as I watch Massimo roll from his back to his belly, over and over again. This is one of many things he has started doing over the last week. Oh, my little boy is growing up! Between sleeping on his belly, talking non-stop, and eating solid foods, we are on our way to becoming a big boy.

Nick and I are enjoying Massi so much these days.. his personality is a mixture of both of us. He has my sweetness and smile (he is always smiling) and he has Nick's sensitivity and "lion" like behavior. Let's hope he keeps this balance.. :)

This upcoming week will most likely bring Massi a few teeth (they are cutting through as I type), and a new vegetable (we're introducing sweet potatoes)!

Boy, do I love my Thursday & Fridays home with Massi! Today, was special as we went to visit our close friends Marni & Felix. Felix was born a few days before Massimo and it's just so much fun to see them grow up together. Marni and I watched them throw the football around, play guitar hero and talk guy talk... just kidding!!!

The highlight of the morning was feeding Massimo rice cereal for the first time (I'm sorry honey, I know you wanted to be the first to feed him real food!). Massi was a CHAMP and literally attacked the spoon... within a minute he had the entire bowl squeaky clean (he takes after his father!). So, I guess it's time to start solids.. he will be 6 months in 10 days so we're right on schedule.

Massi's first Cold

What a week we've had! Poor little Massi has been sick with a cold/fever for the last 8 days. It started last week with a cough, then led to a fever, which has now brought on an ear infection. After several trips to the dr., a visit to Santa Monica hospital, Massi is on the road to recovery! Rainy day in LA!

There's nothing better than a rainy day in LA, especially on my first day off of work! This week was my first week back to Google, and I have to say I really loved it. It made me appreciate how much I love the people I work with and what I do! I'm also so lucky to be working part-time, Monday-Wednesday. Although...3 days really felt like 2 weeks...

Anyway, Massi did great with his nanny Rosa and has really started to eat and sleep more. We are just waiting patiently for the night he wants to surprise us and sleep from 7-7. Please Lord!! He also hit the big "5" Months on Monday... here are a few pictures!!

Weekend Fun in Miami..

We are back safe and sound from our trip to Miami! We had a ball... Massimo was SO much fun and was an angel on the plane. Juju was in her glory escaping the cold weather in NJ and being with her grandson.

Jenn & Andy's wedding was just perfect... every night was filled with something fun and we loved seeing all of our friends and meeting new ones.

One of the highlights of our trip was seeing Nick's oldest sister Donna and her husband Carl. They drove down "last minute" to have lunch and meet Massimo... what a treat!!!

Goin' to Miami...

Massi and I are getting ready to head to Miami tomorrow morning. One of my best friends, Jenn, is getting married there this weekend! We're also meeting my mom there, she's going to watch Massimo while I have some fun with the girls! We cannot wait to see Juju!!

For those that are keeping track of Massimo's weight... he tipped the scales today at exactly 14 lbs. Very exciting! Also, we will celebrating Massi's 5 month birthday next Monday. Even though it's my first day back at work, I'll be sure to take some pictures with his sign!

Massimo's Toys..

It's truly amazing the amount of "stuff" you can buy your child! Over the last week, I have managed to buy Massimo three new toys for his new "developmental" stage... that means 4+ months. So.. out with the old and on with new! That means no more swing, boppy, or boring ole' bouncer. Instead, it's time for flashy, colorful and down right "this does not match with our living room" stuff.

With that said, I've taken a few pictures of Massimo playing with them all... (please brace yourself, the colors are alarming!).

Also, Nick was on diaper duty yesterday and took a 5 minute video of Massi in his new bouncy chair. I recommend cutting to the middle for some action.

California sunsetting..

For those of you that don't live in Los Angeles, the weather over the last 2 weeks has been SUMMER! Yes, I said it, HOT! The days reach in the high 80's, with the nighttime air a bit chilly and in the 60's. Just perfect...

Last night, I went for a run around our neighborhood and the adjoining one.. both have amazing "bluffs" which is a very steep and broad hill or small cliff, frequently next to a river or ocean (wiki). In our case, the bluffs are above the ocean and is a place I frequent almost every single day. Tonight, I brought Nick and Massimo down to the bluff to watch the sunset (around 5:00 p.m.).. it was just the perfect night. There were people lined up ready to watch the spectacular sunset. We are so blessed to live in such an amazing place.

Hot Sunday!!

It is a hot Sunday here in LA! Our morning kicked off with a long beach run... Massi just loves his new running stroller (not more than me though!). We've been spending the rest of the day, hanging around the house watching football. We sure wish the Patriots were in the playoffs.

We're getting ready to kick off a week full of activity; mommy's group tomorrow at the Riviera, and some special playdates! It's also only 3 weeks until I go back to work part-time.. so that means EVERY SINGLE day counts even more from this point on. I'm actually excited to go back, the thought of talking & thinking about something other than "baby" all day long is refreshing (don't get me wrong, I'm going to miss Massi every minute of the day).

Massi's New Digs!!

Massi has a new bed!! We have finally put his crib together and he is riding high in style with it. The co-sleeper started cramping his style when we got back from the east coast last week, so it was time to move on up. Massimo is sooo big!

It's just incredible how quickly babies grow up... it seems like yesterday when Massi was just under 6 lbs and I couldn't wait for him to get a lil meat on his bones! Well, the meat is now official!

We went for his 4 month check-up today and in just the last 5 weeks he has gained 2 1/2 lbs and grew 3.5 inches... WOW!! Massi's vocabulary is also getting quite funny too.. he wakes from his naps now in full "gaga" mode... I am loving it!!

I took a few shots today so you can see how big our boy is getting. We love him sooo much!

Happy 2009!!!

We have arrived safely home to sunny California!! The plane ride was great; Massimo slept most of the time and loved looking outside the window. He recieved his first set of "wings" too... very exciting!! When we arrived home, I made a point to walk around the house and re-introduce him to where he really lives (it's been a month!). He was very interested and alert!

New Year's Eve was uneventful for the Leone Family.... Massi and I were in bed by 6 p.m. and Nick wasn't too far after. The time change and trip home just wiped out us! Anyway, Happy 2009 to ALL, we are looking forward to the New Year and all the joy it will bring us.

Today (the 2nd), is Massimo's 4 Month Birthday!! Yippeeeeee. I had so many responses from the 3 month old pictures that I thought I would have him pose the same way... you can really see how much he has grown (pudgy legs!).

Heading home to CALI!!

We are finally heading home to California tomorrow morning and I have a bittersweet feeling about leaving little old Allendale, NJ (especially with more snow coming tomorrow).

Being with my family for the past month has just been amazing.... thank you Mom, Dad, Chels, Richie, Chevas, Sheri, Carli, Laurie and so many more for your many many visits and endless love to me, Nick and Massi!! We love you guys so much.

The last week of our trip was extra special. We had a visit from Nana Romaine, Aunt Annie (my mom's sister), and Raegan (my cousin's daughter). They drove 8 hours from Virginia to see us and meet Massimo... you guys are the best! We also decided to have Massimo dedicated at my families church here in NJ. It was such a nice service and it was great having all of our family there.

We're excited to see all of our friends in Cali this week!!! We have missed you all...

Massimo's Christmas...

Oh Gosh.. where do I begin? It's been about a week since I wrote last and so much has happened... Christmas Eve, Christmas, Visitors from Virginia, a baby Dedication!! I'll start this blog post with Christmas and try to catch up with the rest of our events by Tuesday!!

First, let me say that this trip visiting my family has been the best ever! It's been 3 1/2 weeks since Massimo and I arrived and everyday has been filled with fun memories with our family and friends.

This Christmas was probably the best Christmas I have ever had! Not only is Massimo the best gift, but the joy he has brought everyone here is the greatest thing to watch as his mother!!

Christmas morning was spent opening gifts and cooking up an Italian feast. We enjoyed having Nick's best friend Chevas in town with us all week. After lunch, we headed to The Marino's (my aunt/uncle) for dessert where Carli, my cousin, serenaded us with her amazing voice. She is working on a CD... :)

And of course, Massimo, was filled with love from ALL!!!

Massimo meets Santa!

We are getting ready for Christmas, it is literally around the corner!! The last few days have been full of shopping, visitors and holiday parties.

I took Massimo to see Santa at the mall a few days ago. His reaction was neither happy or sad... he just sat there! HA! You can see from his expression that he had no idea what I was making him do... poor lil guy!

Yesterday, we continued to watch the snow come down and hung out with my sister Chelsea's best friend, Chelsea Abplanalp. Chelsea A. just adores Massi and he loves her right back. Last night, we went to a fun Christmas party in our neighborhood. Massimo loved all the activity and was dressed to impress in his Christmas outfit!

We are off to finish our last minute shopping today & tomorrow. It is very cold today here in NJ but Massimo loves to bundle up...

Massimo's First Snow Storm!!

Oh, how I cannot wait until Massimo can build a snowman with us!

The snow storm we got today, was just perfect and so beautiful! It started around 11 a.m. and by 1 p.m. the ground was completely covered with about 5 inches. We decided to take Massimo out for his first snow "play" this afternoon... it was so much fun (I actually think Nick and I had more fun than he did). He loved the cold air and white flakes on his face and was kicking when Nick plopped him down in the snow.

What is Massi going to think when we land in LA and drive pass the beach? :)

St. Nick arrives with SNOW!

Yesterday was such an exciting day...

In the morning we had a visit from our friends Kristin & Brady. Brady is getting so big.. it's so exciting to picture Massimo sitting up and doing all the fun things that Brady's doing at 7 months! It will be here before we know it. Thanks Kris for making the trip to NJ... we love you guys!

Just around the same time that Nick was landing at JFK last night, the snow starting coming down. It was just beautiful! I sat Massimo up in the living room window and told him all about snow, winter, Christmas, and how Daddy was on his way home and that he was St. Nick! (HA!). He smiled so hard that I actually thought I would hear a belly laugh.

Nick's arrival brought us all such JOY! Massi smiled immediately when daddy picked him up (check out the pictures), and was kicking and flailing his arms like crazy. We have had so much fun over the last 24 hours as a little family. Massimo is getting SO big and really changing every single day. We just adore him..

Massimo's Visit to Google NYC!!

Today was very eventful as we took a drive into the city to visit the Google NYC office. I was so excited to show Massi off to everyone...

We arrived at Chelsea Market, where the sales team is, and made our first stop at Brooke's desk! Massi was so happy to be reunited with Brooke... she makes him laugh!!

We then strolled across the street to where the infamous Google Cafe is! I have to say it was a bit overwhelming seeing everyone (it felt like my bridal/baby shower with all the attention) :). Massi was great the entire time and really showed off his funny personality... smiling and talking (okay, cooing).

Our visit made me realize how much I love my friends in the NY office and how I miss being with them everyday. It was also so nice to see Fil, Jeanne & Giulia again!

On our way home we dropped Chels off at her class and made a quick pit stop to see one of my longest & bestest friends, Jenn! I loved watching her with Massi... she is so in love.

I write this post as Massimo and I are cuddled up in bed. We're getting ready for a big day tomorrow -- Daddy arrives!!!

Weekend Fun..

This weekend was pretty lazy for me and Massimo, as it was soooo cold here! We hung around the house, decorated the tree and had a ton of visitors. Massi is in awe of the lights on the tree and could just sit in his chair for hours staring at it. He's also enjoying the Christmas music we've been playing (Josh Groban puts him right to sleep!). Today, we enjoyed a nice morning at church and then football all day... GO PATS! We're watching the Giants right now and rooting them on...

We're gearing up for a busy week. Tomorrow, Massimo and I are heading to Google to see our friends and have lunch. Tuesday, Nick arrives in town after being away from us for almost 2 weeks! We also have a bunch of friends we plan on seeing -- Kristin & Brady, Lindsay Grady and the twins, and many more.

Special Visit from Brooke & Jeanne!!

Today we had a very special visit from our best friends, Brooke & Jeanne!! We were also lucky to have Uncle Fil (Jeanne's husband) and little Giulia (Jeanne's lil girl) join us. The morning kicked off with opening gifts and sipping champagne to celebrate Brooke's engagement. Massi received a few surprises from The Disney Store from Brooke and Jeanne gave him the cutest "Santa Helper" onsie with a Santa Hat (don't worry I took pictures of him in it!).

After gifts, we enjoyed a nice brunch listening to Christmas music and catching up. Unfortunately, Massimo decided to sleep the entire time so we weren't able to enjoy his smiles and coos... (of course he woke up 30 minutes after they left and wanted to play!).

We love you Jeanne, Fil, Giulia, Brooke and Josh... cannot wait to see you again soon.

LA BOXING!!

Today we took a drive to Hoboken, NJ to see my brother's new gym -- LA Boxing! It wouldn't be a real visit without getting a workout in. So, I put on my boxing gloves and hit the bags. Massimo hung out with Richie & Jules and rooted me on... it was fun but very hard (I will be very sore tomorrow for sure!).

We're so proud of Richie for all his hardwork and dedication to opening the gym... it is truly awesome!

Late Night's in Jersey!

It's only been 2 nights and we've already seen a dozen friends. Massi is loving all the attention but needs a full day to catch up on all of his "missed" naps.

Last night was so much fun! One of my best friends from High School, Nikki, brought her twin boys over to meet Massi. Max & Zach are so full of energy and Massi just loved having some boys around.

As soon as they left, we had a special visit from our old Allendale friends, The Lowy's, who live in Arizona now (I hadn't seen them in 10+ years). We caught up for hours, while Massimo slept in my arms without a peep!

Tonight we went to visit Matt & Cassie Minicucci who just had a little baby girl, Sadie. She is so beautiful! I have known Matt for 20 years now and I am so proud to see him as a father now.

Massimo Arrives in NJ!

Massimo and I arrived in NJ this past Thursday night! Our flight was great, Massi and I rode 1st class, which was SO nice, and he slept most of the way. He just loved his first plane ride..

We were greeted by Nana Juju at baggage claim and Massi just went WILD! I don't have a picture to show his excitement, but he had the biggest smile I had ever seen!! It has been so nice being home the past few days, we've had a number of visitors already and cannot wait to see more of our friends & family.

Our trip East is pretty long, but will hopefully not go too fast (we are here until Dec. 29th!). Nick will be here on the 18th, and we already counting down the days. We miss you Daddy!!

Massimo is 3 Months!

Today was an exciting day for us... not only is Massi 3 Months but we spent it doing something very special. Before we head home for the holidays, I wanted Massimo and his NICU nurses at St. John's to reunite... after all, it's been 3 long months and Massi has grown so much!

I had fun baking a few festive treats for them this morning and we arrived in perfect time to see our very favorite nurse, Suzie (she took care of Massi around the clock for 2 weeks!). Seeing the smile on her face made me so happy.... she could not believe how big he was and remembered his little personality. What a great memory...

After the hospital we headed to the Bry's to take their Christmas Photo (my side job!). You'll see some pictures from our afternoon there as well...

We are off to NJ on Thursday morning so this will be my last blog until the East Coast!!

Our Thanksgiving Weekend..

As I mentioned in my previous post, we spent this Thanksgiving with our dear friends, The Bry's. Helene did all the hard work, and we just showed up with dessert - pie, ice cream and Massimo! Everyone went nuts over him and I found myself hardly playing mom all night... he is such a ladies man!

The next morning, we took our first roadtrip to The Bry's house in Palm Springs. Massi slept both ways and was great all weekend. We had so much fun putting up their Christmas Tree, making a gingerbread house and just celebrating this special time of year. It was also perfect timing for a little trip, as we get ready to take off for New Jersey this Thursday morning. We are so excited to see our family and all our friends there....

Giving Thanks..

This holiday season is extra special because we have someone new in our lives...

Massimo has been such a joy these last 3 months and we are so thankful for him, his health, and the happiness he has brought our family.

As we celebrate Thanksgiving today, my husband reminded me that today is not only a day of Thanksgiving but also PRAYER. In 1789, George Washington proclaimed this day to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many favors of our Almighty God! So, as you spend time with your family and friends today and fill your belly, remember what this holiday is truly about. We might live in a crazy time right now but we are all so blessed!

Today, we plan to celebrate the holiday with our good friends Richie & Helene Bry and then head down to Palm Springs (our first roadtrip with Massi). I will be sure to take lots of pictures. Until then, here are some recent shots from this week plus a new video.

Baby it's cold outside...

It's been chilly here in SoCal! Low's are in the 50's in the morning and night and during the day you have to wear a vest/scarf. Nothing like what we're going home to in 10 days but still a little colder then what we're used to...

Yesterday, Massi had his 2 1/2 month checkup at the Dr's, which included his first shots.

Massimo's Health Stats..
Weight: 10 lbs / 5 ounces
Height: 21 Inches
Eye Coordination: perfect :)
Ears: perfect :)

The shot definitely startled him and he belted out a cry which lasted no longer than 10 seconds. The rest of the day he pretty much slept, except for the evening we had to give him his first dose of Tylenol. Overall, he was a trooper and we are so proud of him!! Massimo & Sleep!

Massimo is a pretty good sleeper, both during the day & night! He hasn't been able to "sleep through the night" yet but he's working his way up to it. They say that once your baby hits about 12 lbs (M is 10 lbs now) and can drink more than 5 ounces, he should start having longer stretches in the middle of the night (please LORD!).

Taking naps during the day can sometimes be a challenge as Massi hates to miss out on anything! On a good day, he's either in his crib napping or in the stroller/car seat while we go for a walk or run errands. On the more challenging days (notice how I didn't say bad), we have a few tricks that Massi just eats up... check out these photos from today!!!

This weekend is the Men's Double Tournament at the Riviera. We've been hanging there with our friends and rooting on Daddy. Massimo is 10 Weeks!

Where has the time gone? I cannot believe how much Massimo has grown and changed in just the last week. It's like all of a sudden he hits 10 weeks and bam.. the fussiness calms down, the personality comes out (with the smile) and he's able to play more! We have had so much fun this week....

Every Monday, we go to a Mommy & Me group, where about 10 moms bring their little ones and we all chat about our babies happenings, etc. It's super fun and Massi has made some great friends ~ Felix, Wil, Harper, Avery!

This week we've really laid low. It's been a little chilly in SoCal, which makes us want to hang in our pjs until noon! :)

Weekend with the Leone's..

Since Massimo entered our lives 2 months ago, our weekend routine hasn't changed much! We still go to starbucks as soon as our eyes open (sometimes Nick will bundle Massi up and let me get some extra sleep). We also love our morning time at home as a family before we head out for the day. Our workouts now include Massi... either a long walk or he comes to the gym with us and hangs at the front desk...he can sleep the entire hour we're there (it's a very small gym!). Night time also hasn't changed a bit, Nick still makes his famous cocktails and we either catch up about our week, watch a movie or hit the town (with Massi in tow!).

Nick and I played tennis together for the first time. We brought Massimo on the court in his car seat and after 30 minutes he started fussing a bit.. so, what does Nick do? He picks him up and starts hitting the ball back to me. Only nick.. right? Massimo loved the noise of the ball going back and forth.. future tennis star!

I also took some shots of us hanging at Starbucks this morning.. it was 55 degrees out! brrrr

This morning Massimo and I made our way to the polls! We've been keeping a close eye on the results all day, praying that McCain will fight his way through.

Massimo's First Halloween & FIRST REAL SMILE!!

I have to admit that Halloween is not my favorite holiday... but, I have no intentions of depriving lil Massi with the festivities of dressing up as a hockey player or a race car driver. This year was a bit different, as every onsie or costume we had for him didn't fit (he's still tiny for almost 9 lbs!). So, last minute, I ran to the Gap in hope they had a 0-3 Halloween onsie that I could wash and shrink before we head off to a little party. I was lucky.. there was one left and he looked adorable as a little "candy corn".

This morning, November 1st, marked the day of Massimo's first "real smile". It was one of the happiest and funniest moments and our life. The best thing, is that he didn't stop.. he just kept smiling and smiling! So cute..

Let's Hear it for 8 Weeks!!

Yes, I am one of those crazy moms who counts their babies growth non-stop! I think because Massi was early and in the nicu, every milestone is BIG!

So.. today we celebrate the 8 week mark (almost 9 lbs)! And.. I have to admit I've been struggling lately with the thought that we're suppose to go by his actual due date (9/26 vs. 9/2), which would put us at 4 weeks. Massi isn't 4 weeks?!? He is 8 weeks?!? There I go again with my crazy thinking...

Anyway, my point today is that my lil boy is growing and changing every single day! These pictures are from last night (in his pj's) and today (Google got him that cute onsie!). We are having so much fun everyday together!!!

The Ihrig's in Town!!!

This weekend we had our best buds, the Ihrig's, in town all the way from Brooklyn! Lil Brady, 5 months old, has grown so much since I last saw him at 5 weeks :). It's hard to think Massimo is going to be that big soon... as much as I'm looking forward to this fun stage I'm embracing every little "newborn" moment!!

Brady is so fun.. he loves to kick his feet, smile and drool!! I just love him so much..

Tummy Time & Daddy Time!

This past week, Massimo received the cutest gifts from Aunt Brookie... they are so cute that I have to share them with everyone! They came at just the right time, because I've been meaning to start Massimo on "tummy time" ....

This is my first attempt and I think he was a little alarmed to be placed on his belly... Massi already has great head control so after a few days at this I'm sure he'll be peaking upwards!

Today Massimo enjoyed some extra attention from Daddy, while I ran errands and took some time for myself! He loves cuddling up with Nick... so precious!

7 Weeks!

Yesterday in my post I failed to mention that Massi turned 7 weeks yesterday.

So, let's celebrate today with some "7 Week Milestones"

1. Massi is smiling / smurking
2. He has a few more eye lashes
3. No more long naps during the day - 45 minutes MAX (ugh!)
4. Can now fully breakout of his swaddle
5. Broke the 8 lb pound mark
6. Has added a few new coo's (and yes, I'm teaching him "Mama" already)
7. Has pulled a few 4-5 sleep stretches at night

Our lil' Boston Sports Fan..

The past few nights have been full of watching SPORTS in the Leone home (Massi ruled the remote)... Red Sox came SO close to heading to the World Series on Sunday night and then last night we watched the Pats romp Denver... (their game is back on!). We are slowly getting into Hockey season with the Bruins and the thought of the Celtics (BB) coming soon is so exciting.

Thanks to Mrs. Brady for stocking us up on Pats & Red Sox gear... yesterday we received the coolest gift from Nick's longtime friends Matt & Rachel Gsellman... a Bruins Crib Mobile! It is so cool that I might have to put Massimo's crib together this week (he is still in his co-sleeper!).

All we need now is some Celtics gear..

Lillie's Birthday Party!

Yesterday we went to Lillie Bush's 4th Birthday Party! It was Massimo's first "kids" party, so he rolled in with style wearing a Rolling Stones Onsie (thanks Aunt Jen & Nikki!)... so HOT!

"Uncle Bushy" as Billy likes Massi to call him.. was spoiling him rotten and all the little girls loved his long, dark locks! We'll need to humble him as he grows up....

Miss Angie..

When Nick was growing up he had the best nanny in the world.. Miss Angie! So, it's with excitement that we introduce you to Massimo's "Miss Angie" (yes, her name is Angie). Our nanny officially started yesterday... she is amazing... Massimo already loves her and is speaking a little espanol. :)

Mommy got a little break for a few hours (was heaven!). I went to the gym for the first time in months and was able to walk every aisle of the grocery store with a sense of peace knowing that Massi is safe at home with Angie..very exciting!

Oh, we also went to the Dr. yesterday and Massi is breaking the scale at 7lbs 10 ounces.

Aunt Chelsea Arrives..

We had a very eventful day yesterday... picked up Aunt Chelsea from the airport.. she flew in all the way from NYC! I had a few requests (Jeanne!) to document her arrival and response to Massimo.. here it is!

Massimo's First BabySitter

Last night for our anniversary, Nick surprised me and had our close friend Janee over to babysit while we went to dinner. Massimo was in HEAVEN!

Janee spent the night showering him with love and when we got home he was fast asleep on her..so sweet! Once she left, he continued to sleep for 4+ hours... WOW! (What's your secret J?)

Celebration!!!

When Nick and I were first dating in NY we literally celebrated life together everyday (we called it a celecation for some reason). One of my fondest memories is from the summer before we got married... We would meet at this little outdoor cafe right next to the UN called Audrey Hepburn Park... I remember speed walking through the city in the dead heat to get to him after work... (I always stopped at the corner Duane Reed to freshen up!). We sat there for hours listening to jazz music under white lights... sipping our favorite Electric Lemonades (anyone that has ever been to a party with Nick knows that he is famous for making these!). :)

Today is our 2 Year Anniversary... and we are "celecating" our LOVE for each other and the birth of little Massimo!! We are SO blessed...

Speaking of Massimo... yesterday he hit the 7 lb mark! YAY! To celebrate, we put him in the bath with Daddy (I hope these pics don't offend anyone) :)

A First For Everything...

Being a mother to a newborn, there is always a "first"... "first" smile, "first" walk outside, "first" bath, etc.

This past weekend, there were some exciting "firsts" for our little family..

Friday afternoon I took Massimo to the Riviera to watch daddy play tennis. We had so much fun introducing him to our friends... everyone is anxious to get a racket in his hand!
Today, my dream of bringing my child to the farmers market in town came true. Massi and I walked to the market and bought some fresh vegetables and fruit for the week. He just loves being outside...
Church was the real highlight of our weekend! I have spent the last 2 years in the Palisades anxiously awaiting the day that I sit in church with a little family - baby in tow and husband right next to me! It was so great! Massi loved the rock and roll and got to meet all of our friends and his future buddies after the service..

This next week is an exciting week as Massimo should break the 7 lb mark... I'm especially excited because that means his clothes will start fitting him. If you haven't noticed in all of the pictures, he tends to be in the same (5) long sleeve onsies everyday. Anyway, he has SO many cute outfits (thanks Jules!) waiting for him that it's driving me a little crazy. Check out this outfit he just got in the mail from his buddy Brady in Brooklyn, NY (son to Kristin & Jeff Ihrig). We just love it!!!

Swing Away...

It's amazing what a mother will do to "keep" their child asleep. Massimo has NO problem falling asleep (he's like his mom)... but he does tend to wake up several times through his naps. After several attempts this morning to keep him content in his crib, I finally picked him up and for the first time placed him in his swing.

Now, this swing is no ordinary swing... it's honestly nicer than my new audi. It has 7 different levels of swing speed (we're only on 1 right now and I don't think we'll ever reach 7 because it's so intense!).... it also has 12 different song/noise options, including a plug for your ipod (I mean come on!). Needless to say... the swing WORKED! Massi has been fast asleep for the last 90 minutes without even budging.

Today, our boy turned 1 month (how did this happen?!?).

If you're a "loyal Massimo blog follower", than you can probably see how much he's grown and changed.... so exciting!!

Today, we had a check-up with Dr. Hamilton and Massi is up to 6 lbs 4 ounces.. yay!!

Today was our first day visiting daddy's office! It was so exciting to see everyone...

Massimo was on his best behavior and daddy even taught him a few things about the market ("Son, we're heading into a recession, but don't worry because The Global Fund is going to prevail!").

After our visit, we stopped by the pump station to see if Massi has gained any weight. Drum roll please.... he came in at 6 lbs exactly (up 5 ounces from 5 days ago).

WooHoo... let's hear it for Massi!!

My Partner in Crime....

I'm starting to realize that wherever I go, Massimo goes (duh!). That's when all of the activity devices come in handy (bouncers, swings, carriers, etc). Last night the bouncer seat was a hit!! Between letting mommy take a shower and then watching me cook dinner... we were two peas in a pod!

Today we had our 2nd visit with Marni & Felix... the boys played so well together... within no time they'll be playing soccer with each other and driving the girls crazy.

Three Weeks Old!

Yay! Massimo turned 3 weeks today...

We celebrated the day with some extra attention this morning -- lots of kisses and rocking, followed by his first book reading -- "I Love You Stinky Face". How fun!!

Today also marked a significant day -- Massimo out grew his Preemie diapers and is now in regular Newborn! Woohoo... I was so tickled by this. Mama is anxious to see how much he weighs now.. his belly is really filling out!

On Our Own!

Today is the first day Massimo and I were on our own, since Jules & Ricky left yesterday. I've been so used to my mom bringing me coffee by 8 a.m. that I was totally thrown off when I realized I either had to make my own (I am so bad at making coffee!) or bundle Massi up and head into town. So, I decided for the more difficult route. Before I laid him down in the stroller, I made sure he was satisfied from his feeding & almost asleep. However, I was also anxious to get out the door for my little morning caffeine! Finally, around 10 a.m., we were on our way!

Now for the exciting part... we weren't outside for 3 minutes and Massi decides to have the biggest spit-up ever. I nearly died... I quickly picked him up, covered him up and hustled back home. The entire way back I kept thinking I was the worst mother ever... bringing their newborn baby outside before they were digested..... ayaya. We made it back to the house, gave him a bath and waited a little while until things settled down.

Point of the story... 1. Never rush a baby and 2. Your baby is more important than coffee!

Massimo's Big Night Out!

Because Massi has been such a good boy the last few weeks, we decided to let him loose for a night out on the town. Last night, we met Billy & Sydney Bush and their 3 beautiful daughters at Amici in Brentwood (our favorite!). Massi has been famous in the Bush household the last 9 months, so we were so excited for him to meet them... Billy loves to say "Massimilliano Federico Leone"!!!

In true Italian tradition, Nick ordered up a storm and our friends at Amici were in awe of Massimo's hair and long body! Massi didn't cry once and his eyes were wide open the entire night.. I kept telling him "Yes Massimo Italians are loud and a little crazy...get used to it".

Family...

Oh, how we've enjoyed having Nana Juju & Papa Ricky here. Our 2 weeks with them are almost up... but we're already excited to see them soon and start video chatting daily with Juju. Massimo is going to be like that little baby in those finance commercials... :)

It's been such a blessing having my mom here.. I'm going to be lost without her next week. Every morning she brings me coffee, oatmeal and we get started with our day! I try not to order her around too much (mom, can you grab my socks upstairs? can you clean the dishes in the sink? can you burp him while I update my blog? :) ). You get the point...

We love you Juju & Ricky!! Thanks for letting us have a date night tonight :)

What a BIG Day!!

Yesterday was a huge day for us... Massimo had his first play date with Felix Harris!! Felix was born 4 days before Massi and his mom is my close close friend from Google. Marni and I experienced the joys of pregnancy together everyday...

We also had a special visit from our friend Jen Prince who is due in 5 weeks with a little girl.. I wonder who Ms. Prince will date - Massimo or Felix? The race is on Felix :)

After the ladies left, Jules and I decided to take Massi for his first walk in the bugaboo. We walked to the bluff so Massimo could see the ocean... it was a perfect day!!

Last night we had a little bonding time before Daddy got home from a big day at the office (can we say "Wall Street is a MESS!"). Nick arrived home as we were snuggling... he couldn't believe his eyes as this was the first time he's has come home from work to his own happy family. He got all teary and said he's never had a more fulfilling moment in his life! We love you Daddy...

I tried to take some good shots today but all I was stuck with was sleeping and eating (I left out the pooping ones!) :)
